ROLE: Electrical Systems Manager (ESM)

Company: Evolve Battery & Grid Solutions (www.evolve-bgs.com)

Location: Cape Town, South Africa (this is NOT a remote job)

Department: Technical, PART-TIME to evolve into FULL-TIME

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Monthly Compensation: Combination of fixed flat rate (range R15K - 18k/mth depending on experience) + Variable Rate (depending on Tech visits): can total R35K - R45K per month at peak time.

EVOLVE BGS (www.evolve-bgs.com), an energy digitalization startup, is building a network of interconnected battery and solar PV systems (sometimes called a Virtual Power Plant, or VPP) that can be dispatched intelligently via software protocols dramatically boosting Prosumers’ ability to sell green power to other participants, as well as providing peak-shaving and demand-reduction services to Eskom or their municipal distribution operator.

We are looking for a dynamic, ambitious and hard-working Electrical Systems Manager (ESM) to join our team and contribute to building this first-of-its-kind innovative Virtual Power Plant (VPP) project.

Job Summary

The Electrical Systems Manager will be responsible for working with the Chief Commercial Officer to recruit and on-board participants (or Prosumers) for the VPP project and collaborating with the Lead Software Developer to program the algorithmic protocols that drive the backend intelligence of the VPP. This role requires a strong background in the rooftop solar PV industry, with specific expertise in residential and commercial battery installations, inverters, and troubleshooting such systems.

The ideal candidate would ALSO have familiarity with:

Ø Strong familiarity with systems of voltage levels up to 11kV at the minimum

Ø Eskom/Municipal Distribution System hierarchies of substations

Ø Familiarity with SSEG regulations such as SANS10142 and NRS 097

Ø Solar PV Inverters and BMS protocols

Ø Telematics

Key Responsibilities:

1. Participant Recruitment: Engage with Solar PV & battery owners (farms, malls, businesses) to join the VPP project.
2. Technical Onboarding: Conduct discovery sessions to understand participants' energy usage, capturing details on inverters, batteries, and meters.
3. Wheeling Program Enrollment: Assist Evolve comply with Eskom and Municipal wheeling applications and technical requirements.
4. System Integration: Work with the software team to program VPP protocols for smooth operation.
5. Customer Engagement: Support troubleshooting with Evolve clients (prosumers) and maintain strong client relationships.
6. Innovative Solutions: Assist Evolve in developing proprietary hardware as required for efficient operations.

Qualifications/Educational Background:

· Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering/Mechatronics - preferred but not obligatory.

· Advanced Diploma Candidates with strong relevant experience will also be considered.

Experience:

· Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the rooftop solar PV industry: VERY IMPORTANT

· Extensive experience with residential and commercial battery installations and inverters

· Proven track record in troubleshooting rooftop PV and battery installations

· Knowledge of LV and MV systems/substations
