Role Location: Illovo, Johannesburg, South Africa (Hybrid working available)

Contract Basis: Full Time | Permanent

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Product Development & Technical Marketing Analyst will play a pivotal role in the research, design, development, and technical marketing of Unisure’s insurance products, with a strong focus on health and short-term insurance solutions across African markets. This role combines deep product development expertise with technical marketing acumen to ensure Unisure’s offerings are both innovative and market-leading. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where processes may be manual and data sources decentralised.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct comprehensive market and competitor research to inform product design, pricing, and positioning, particularly in African territories.
• Lead and support the end-to-end product development lifecycle: ideation, benefit design, pricing, business specification, and launch of new or enhanced insurance products.
• Analyse and interpret data to identify product opportunities, track performance, and recommend improvements for profitability and competitiveness.
• Develop compelling technical dashboards and reporting tools to track product performance, product positioning, sales strategies, and marketing collateral tailored to technical and commercial audiences.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (actuarial, underwriting, sales, marketing, compliance) to ensure alignment on product strategy and execution.
• Create interactive and engaging technical documentation, product training materials, and educational resources for internal and external stakeholders.
• Support regulatory and statutory compliance processes for new and existing products, including preparing documentation for filings as required.
• Gather and relay market feedback to inform product enhancements and technical marketing initiatives.
• Represent Unisure at industry events, webinars, and forums to build technical credibility and promote products if needed or required.
• Foster a product-focused technical community and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, especially within the African insurance landscape.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

1. Partly qualified actuary OR appropriate University degree in data analytics, research, product development, benefit design, or pricing.
2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in short-term insurance, with a preference for experience in African territories.
3. Up to 10 years’ relevant experience in research, product development, data analytics, or technical marketing within health insurance or related fields

KEY SKILLS SUCH AS:

• Strong commercial acumen and ability to translate technical findings into actionable business strategies.
• Self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple teams in a fluid, evolving business environment.
• Innovative, solution-oriented mindset with a drive to “hustle” and resolve challenges, even when processes are manual or data is not centralised.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to tailor messaging for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using data to inform product and marketing decisions.
• Experience with African insurance products and markets is a significant advantage.
