Job description

Accountant / Bookkeeper with strong payroll and VAT experience needed in the Stellenbosch area for an Accounting firm with clients in the agriculture industry.

  • Grade 12 with relevant tertiary qualification
  • Completed Articles / CIMA would be a big bonus
  • At least 3 years experience dealing with payroll and VAT submissions
  • Experience using Caseware, Xero or Simplepay
  • Own car required as you will need to travel to clients from time to time

Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Processing of bank and other entries on behalf of clients in relevant financial software package.
  2. Various reconciliations (Bank, Salaries, loan accounts and Creditors) within allocated due dates.
  3. Loading of creditor and other payments for approval / authorisation by relevant parties.
  4. Raising of debtor invoices where necessary.
  5. Allocating of expenses in correct categories.
  6. Maintenance of fixed asset register and reconciling the assets to the general ledger.
  7. Ensure all financial expenses have the necessary supporting documentation.
  8. Calculation, completion and submission of VAT201 returns, including preparing reports to communicate VAT due to clients.
  9. Process weekly, bi-weekly and monthly payroll.
  10. Submission of EMP201 returns.
  11. Calculation and submission of bi-annual EMP501 returns and the annual generation of IRP5 returns.
  12. Generate management reports for review.
  13. Preparation of trial balance suitable for annual financial statements and audit work.
  14. Assist with tax queries as needed.
  15. Maintain historical records by filing documents.
