Job description

DESCRIPTION/SYNOPSIS:

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and passionate Horticulture Manager to join a private business with properties across Gauteng and Mpumalanga. The role will be based in Kempton Park and involve regular oversight of a wildlife estate in Mpumalanga. You will manage the day-to-day operations and strategic development of the nurseries, residential gardens, fruit orchards, vegetable cultivation, and decorative gardens. This role is ideal for a self-managed professional with deep horticultural knowledge and the ability to work across different climates and property types.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Diploma or Degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or similar field
  • At least 5 years' experience managing large-scale gardens or estates
  • Experience with Greenhouse/Shade-net farming highly beneficial
  • Hands-on experience with fruit, vegetable, and ornamental plants
  • Good understanding of soil health, irrigation systems, and pest control
  • Valid driver's licence and own vehicle
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to Mpumalanga
  • Experience managing nursery operations will be advantageous
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee all horticultural activities across residential and agricultural properties
  • Supervise the care and development of gardens, lawns, trees, and landscaping
  • Manage vegetable gardens, fruit orchards, and ornamental beds
  • Coordinate planting, irrigation, composting, and pest/disease management
  • Support the development and sustainability of agricultural operations at a wildlife estate in Mpumalanga
  • Monitor plant health and seasonal garden requirements
  • Supervise and train groundskeeping staff
  • Develop seasonal plans and garden layouts in consultation with owners
  • Manage sourcing and use of materials including soil, seeds, tools, and fertilisers
  • Maintain nurseries and propagation spaces for plant stock
  • Ensure gardens are aesthetically maintained to a high standard
