Role Purpose

The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for providing a comprehensive occupational healthcare program to clients, ensuring compliance with all legal requirements.

Requirements
  • A National Senior Certificate is essential.
  • A Degree / Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing is essential.
  • Certificates in Audiology, Spirometry, and Vision Screening are essential.
  • A valid Dispensing course certificate is essential.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and own insured vehicle is essential.
  • Must be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Occupational Health Practitioner.
  • Valid registration with the South African Society of Occupational Health Nurses (SASOHN).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Occupational Health Nursing.
  • Good understanding of the Health & Safety Act and relevant legislation.
  • Willingness to be on standby for after-hours injuries on duty.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Implement and evaluate a risk-based medical surveillance program, including pre-employment, baseline, annual, transfer, and exit medical screening.
  • Manage activities related to occupational safety, health, and waste.
  • Administer, report, and follow-up on Injury on Duty cases according to employer policies – including standby duties.
  • Respond to medical emergencies within scope of practice.
  • Assist with worker reintegration after prolonged absence.
  • Recognize and manage chronic diseases to ensure productivity.
  • Provide consultation, counseling, and referrals as needed.
  • Advise line management and employees on occupational health matters such as absenteeism and sick leave follow-ups.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health legislation.
  • Investigate client queries within service level agreements and escalate as necessary, providing timely feedback.
  • Monitor hazard exposure trends and implement preventative measures.
  • Promote workplace wellness through health education talks.
  • Participate in audits and oversee occupational health service equipment and administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality and proper record management.
  • Continuously update professional and legislative knowledge.
