Job description

Position Overview

Working closely with the Technology Manager, the Senior Server and Systems Engineer is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing enterprise server systems that support the school's technological vision.

Provide guidance and mentorship to the IT support team, while offering high-level support and best practices to administrators and teachers aligned with the school's learning goals.

The role involves developing, implementing, and supporting data server and storage systems across the organization, ensuring high uptime, availability, integration, and automation.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Lead the integration of complex enterprise-level network servers and storage systems.
  2. Manage and administer these systems, ensuring they are set up according to industry best practices.
  3. Plan, design, and implement technology projects related to enterprise servers and storage.
  4. Automate tasks using scripts and commands, and manage system security, including certificates and antivirus solutions like Sophos.
  5. Manage virtualization environments such as Hyper-V and troubleshoot hypervisors and cloud servers on platforms like Azure.
  6. Perform root cause analysis on system problems and develop disaster recovery plans in collaboration with the IT Manager.
  7. Monitor backups and server logs, coordinate with external providers, and develop technical documentation and SOPs.
  8. Adhere to change control policies, recommend system improvements, and stay updated with new technologies.
  9. Travel to the Pretoria campus for support when necessary, participate in meetings, training, and team development activities.
  10. Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Technology Manager.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Matric Certificate
  • ITIL, MCP, MCSE, MCITP or related certifications
  • BSc in Computer Science or relevant field
  • Minimum five years of advanced experience in enterprise server and storage management, including project management, enterprise hardware/software, Active Directory, virtualization, and cybersecurity skills.
