Job Description: Junior Design Engineer at Sandvik Rock Processing Solutions

At Sandvik Rock Processing Solutions ("SRP"), we're passionate about development and advanced technology, striving to provide the best experience for our customers sustainably.

We seek an ambitious, motivated, and innovative Junior Design Engineer to join our team, reporting to the Design Office Manager. The role is based in Spartan, Kempton Park, Johannesburg.

Purpose of the Role

Develop and design products, equipment, and tools that meet high quality and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Review product development requirements for compatibility with methods to determine cost and schedules.
2. Integrate equipment and material capabilities to meet module and technology target specifications.
3. Handover methods, processes, and equipment to production.
4. Utilize CAD or CAE systems to model designs and produce detailed drawings.
5. Specify functional requirements, design, test, and evaluate components, and assess overall design effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety.
6. Develop and execute testing and validation plans; review material specifications and bills of materials.
7. Collaborate with manufacturing partners, designers, and product teams.
8. Ensure compliance with safety and design standards.
9. Generate mass estimates for tender proposals and prepare technical data packs.
10. Travel as needed for customer meetings and site measurements.
11. Ensure work conforms to standards, check drawings and BOMs, and participate in developing technical standards and training materials.
12. Maintain engineering calculations and propose product improvements.
13. Assist other departments, support site visits, and develop engineering calculations.
14. Consult with lead designers on new or changed designs and maintain accurate drawing files.

Qualifications & Experience

BTech or BEng in Mechanical Engineering, with 0-2 years of experience in 3D CAD modelling, preferably in Siemens NX or SolidEdge, and knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and welding specifications.
