Job Summary
The purpose of this role is to conduct in-depth, specialized, and quality credit assessments and risk analyses on potential and existing clients within a Commercial Portfolio. The goal is to enhance the decision-making process regarding the Bank's appetite for extending credit to these clients. This includes financial analysis, interpretation, and capturing client information such as company financial statements and qualitative data.
Job Description
Risk Management
- Monitor clients’ performance continuously for risk indicators and perform formal reviews at specified intervals to identify any changes in their business or operating environment.
- Ensure adherence to covenants and conditions, discuss deviations and concerns with the Sales team, and escalate issues to Line Management and Credit when necessary.
- Follow ARMS credit requirements as stipulated in the Absa credit policy and report boundary events as per the Operational Risk Boundary.
- Obtain input from Product Industry Specialists to assist in client solutioning and credit application processes.
- Identify when meetings are needed between high-risk clients, Credit, and Business Support.
- Request updated property valuations that serve as security for facilities, in line with Absa Credit policies.
- Manage and communicate risks related to outstanding securities.
- Proactively identify problematic or high-risk clients and advise Credit accordingly, managing them with targeted input and loss prevention measures such as EWL Reports.
- Manage and request outstanding Financial Statements as per the Credit policy.
- Handle daily Odex, Referrals, REPL, and REPC actions, contacting clients on referral lists for rectification.
Credit Management
- Explore new, improved, and alternative solutions for client credit requirements.
- Ensure full compliance with Bank’s credit policies and procedures, addressing any breaches appropriately.
- Provide bank codes and reports on clients.
- Proactively manage credit risks within the client portfolio and their related products.
- Manage the deal forum process to ensure quality applications are submitted with sustainable credit solutions.
Portfolio Financial and Operational Management
- Prepare reviews, amendments, and new applications for approval by lending authorities.
- Issue facility letters to clients after reviews and new facilities are approved.
- Send reminder letters for expiring facilities, as per policy (e.g., 30-, 60-, 90-day notices).
- Contribute to Non-Interest Income by ensuring recovery of manual fees (e.g., reviews, valuations) to prevent revenue leakages.
- Spread client financials across various Credit Risk Grading models (e.g., Agri Model, Public Sector Model, RiskCalc, Triad).
- Provide Default Grading (DG) outputs from these models.
- Ensure all information entered into risk models is accurate and balanced.
Client Solutioning and Customer Service
- Identify cross-sell opportunities through analysis of client financials, account conduct, industry changes, and market standing, and pass these leads to Relationship Executives or Transactional Bankers.
- Participate in sales best practice sessions, providing credit input to mitigate risk and monitoring sales progress until deals are closed.
- Research industry trends and client market standing to understand profitability and competitive positioning.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas in Business, Commerce, Management Studies, or Credit Risk, with five or more years of relevant experience.
- Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
