Position Overview

General Reinsurance, Cape Town Branch (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG), is offering an opportunity for a Reserving Actuary in our Life Australia, UK, SA, Canada division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Join our valuations team as an actuary with 3-6 years of experience, reporting to the Reserving Manager.
  • Assist with financial reporting on US GAAP and IFRS basis.
  • Support regulatory reporting for SAM and Solvency II.
  • Engage with internal and external auditors after year-end.
  • Contribute to system design developments for US GAAP LDTI and IFRS 17.
  • Analyze valuation data to gain insights into the business.
  • Develop and maintain tools for actuarial data analysis to improve management and regulatory reporting.
  • Monitor and provide management information.
  • Participate in international projects such as US GAAP LDTI, IFRS 17, and Data Systems projects.
  • Automate models and business processes.
  • Assess valuation data for experience studies or assumption setting.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified actuary with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Proficient in IT skills including MS Office, SQL Server, and handling large datasets.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, especially in new situations or client interactions.
  • Excellent in actuarial modeling, data analysis, and statistics.
  • Knowledge of R, Python, and GGY AXIS is advantageous.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Committed to excellence in execution and delivery.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and enthusiastic about the role.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and communication across all levels.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Confidence in communicating with senior team members and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of SAM, Solvency II, and IFRS17 is advantageous.
