Job description

The financial manager leads all day-to-day accounting and financial controller operations as well as supporting the Financial Director with ongoing strategic matters.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) :

Reviewing the work of and managing external bookkeepers in delivering the following across multiple companies in the group :

Manage month end procedures to ensure efficient and accurate close

Monthly reconciliation and allocation of revenue & cost of sales

Monthly management accounts

Payroll function for SA, Australia and UK entities

VAT and Income Tax reviews for all entities in partnership with bookkeepers

Review and set up monthly supplier payments for authorisation

Maintain bank reconciliations

Prepare accurate monthly financial and management reports, including income statement, balance sheet, budget and variance, projections and forecast, and cash flow.

Analyzes complex financial data and extracts and define relevant information; interpret data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and / or to project financial probability.

Manage, review and approve all payments in line with standard operating procedures.

Review and approve month-end closing procedures, including expense allocations, account and bank reconciliations, and updating of related schedules.

Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.

Tracking and analysis of business performance in comparison to budget.

Preparation and submission of VAT and Income Tax.

Preparation of business models and due diligence as requested by Leadership.

Effective Management of the operational finances.

Treasury and liquidity management

Perform the treasury function for the Group

Prepare weekly liquidity forecasts managing cash balances and requirements in each currency

Calculate and ensure timing of transfers of funds are executed based on the liquidity forecasts and timing of requirements in each currency while complying with SARB and bank processes

Internal Controls

Manage audit requirements and remediate findings.

Design and Implement controls and procedures particularly on receivables, payables, fixed assets, etc.

Continuously seek to improve, automate, and increase efficiency of financial management and reporting systems.

Review of daily supplier payments to ensure all company approval policies and SARS requirements are adhered to.

Effective Management of the operational finance department by establishing and maintaining financial mechanisms that reduce or mitigate financial risk.

Review of financial results to ensure revenue is complete and accurate and all related expenses are accurately and correctly classified.

Review and analysis of performance against budgeted and producing reports.

Review and approval of all supplier payments through sign off on expense payment packs and reconciliations.

Review bank reconciliations.

Prepare and manage budget workbooks.

Preparation of tax calculations.

Reducing operating costs where possible by seeking new and renegotiating existing contracts.

Reviewing expenses and identifying opportunities for cost-saving.

Review of suppliers and debtors ageing to ensure trade taking place within limits.

Debtors and supplier management

Other finance related tasks both ad hoc and recurring

Data Control - Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on acquiring, organising, protecting and processing data to fulfil business objectives.

Costing and Budgeting - Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on costing, budgeting and finance tasks.

Communication - Communicates with other people without requiring supervision and provides technical guidance when required on speaking in a clear, concise and compelling manner.

Education and experience

BCom financial / accounting or similar degree

CIMA or CA(SA)

If CIMA, 4 years minimum experience in service related (IT / tech preferable) industries in similar role

If CA, articles giving experience in similar fields and 2 years post articles experience

Must have an entrepreneurial mindset and solid Financial Analysis skills

Must be flexible and resilient

Leave days 20 days per annum
