Role Purpose/Business Unit:

At Vodacom, we are committed to leveraging data-driven insights to enhance our customer experience and optimize our business processes. We are seeking a Manager: Decision Science to support the Executive Head: Credit and Risk Decision by focusing on data-driven decision-making. This role will be instrumental in developing and maintaining credit risk models and decision processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing advanced analytics solutions to inform strategic operational decisions.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Develop and maintain segmented credit risk models and decision processes to optimize acceptance rates within the agreed risk mandate.
  • Provide ongoing support for Financial Operations with modelling related to IFRS 9 and IFRS 15.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and reporting to inform strategies aimed at better customer outcomes.
  • Provide strategic and technical guidance to the decision scientists within the team, fostering their development.
  • Oversee and manage Vodacom’s post-paid portfolio to maximize risk-adjusted returns.
  • Support internal stakeholders with reporting, modelling, and analysis deliverables.
  • Provide forecasting inputs for budget and planning purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and renew Reserve Bank mandates as needed.
The ideal candidate for this role will have:

Must have technical / professional qualifications:

  • Post-graduate qualifications in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Informatics, or Engineering.
  • Formal Business Analysis certification is a plus.
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience in technical business analysis deliverables and decision engine development.
  • Proficiency in data management using SAS, SQL, Python, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of technical business analysis principles and corporate information systems.
  • Extensive experience in credit risk/vetting best practices.


Core competencies, knowledge and experience :

  • Advanced knowledge of technical business analysis principles.
  • In-depth understanding of corporate information systems / processes.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in credit risk / vetting best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer programming (SAS, Python, SQL etc) and system configurations.
  • In-depth knowledge / experience using commercial vetting decision applications /frameworks (DV360, Modellica, Case Centre, Transact, PowerCurve, etc.)
