ACCOUNT MANAGER
Earned Media – Corporate and Consumer Clients
Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Account Manager to join our team in Johannesburg, managing a portfolio of corporate and consumer clients across various sectors. This is a hands-on, client-facing role ideal for a PR professional with 4–6 years' experience who is comfortable working across both corporate and lifestyle/consumer brands. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of earned media campaigns, media relations, supplier liaison, and content delivery across classical and digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Account & Campaign Management
- Manage the day-to-day rollout of client plans and campaigns across corporate and consumer accounts.
- Serve as a key point of contact for media, content suppliers, and clients.
- Lead the implementation of earned media activities, ensuring deadlines and deliverables are met.
- Assist in developing client strategies through research and insights.
- Prepare client presentations, reports, project reviews, and status updates.
- Track campaign results against client scope of work.
- Assist the Account Director in incident management and client counsel.
Media Relations & Content Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with a range of media — from business press and corporate publications to lifestyle, digital, and social platforms.
- Proactively pitch stories to media, tailored to audience and platform.
- Identify and develop relevant media angles and content opportunities for both corporate and consumer narratives.
- Draft high-quality media content such as press releases, thought leadership articles, media alerts, and Q&As.
- Deliver content and solutions aligned to the PESO model (Paid, Earned, Social, Owned).
Supplier & Content Partner Management
- Identify, brief, and manage content creators, production suppliers, and media partners.
- Ensure third-party deliverables align with client strategies, budgets, and brand guidelines.
- Oversee content timelines, quality, and approval processes with external partners.
- Manage administrative tasks including budgeting, invoicing, and supplier contracts.
Client & Team Collaboration
- Prepare for and lead client meetings.
- Support the Account Director with client liaison and strategic input.
- Roll out client plans and drive process adherence.
- Assist with budgeting, timekeeping, and resource planning.
- Mentor and support Account Assistants and interns within the team.
Key Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or related field.
- 4–6 years of experience in a PR agency or similar fast-paced communications environment.
- Proven experience working on both corporate and consumer brand accounts.
- Strong media relations experience across classical, digital, and social media.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and client liaison skills.
- Experience managing content creators, production suppliers, and third-party partners.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong understanding of integrated communication and the PESO model.
