Job description

We’re currently looking for a Life or Non-Life Actuarial Assistant Manager to join our Actuarial practice. Our team consists of more than 100 actuarial professionals across 5 locations in Africa – Johannesburg, Cape Town, Mauritius, Nairobi and Lagos.

Our actuarial consulting team offers a great opportunity to gain exposure across various technical actuarial areas and across a range of insurers in the South African and international markets. This accelerates your learning curve, challenges your thinking, and provides opportunities to deepen your technical actuarial skills.

We value teamwork, proactivity, diversity, and inclusion. Our team thrives in a growth mindset environment and a collaborative culture. You will work with some of the most knowledgeable actuarial professionals in the industry—colleagues who are brilliant, committed, dynamic, and creative. Through a combination of actuarial audit and consulting experience, our team members develop exceptional technical knowledge, enabling them to excel in actuarial exams and progress toward becoming qualified actuaries.

Your key responsibilities
  1. Supporting or managing actuarial audits on IFRS17 and Solvency Assessment and Management for life or non-life insurers.
  2. Supporting the Head of Actuarial Function and potentially managing HAF engagements for life or non-life insurers and reinsurers.
  3. Managing or supporting engagements covering ERM frameworks, ORSA, Risk Appetite, or other risk topics.
  4. Managing or supporting value-adding projects related to IFRS17 implementation and emerging trends in the actuarial field.
  5. Developing the team by coaching and mentoring junior colleagues.
  6. Continuously learning and sharing knowledge with the wider actuarial team.

Most work will be project-based, either for a specific period or on a recurring basis, allowing collaboration with different team members and subject matter experts to gain invaluable experience and technical expertise.

Skills and attributes for success
  • At least 3 years of experience in the Life or Non-Life Insurance industry.
  • Preferably a maximum of 2 actuarial exams remaining.
  • Experience in financial reporting (SAM/Solvency II, IFRS, EV) is a plus.
  • Team player, proactive, and a self-starter.
  • Curious mindset with a keenness to learn.
  • Critical thinker with a solution-oriented approach.
