Our client, a leading mining company, is looking to appoint a Category Specialist to join their team for a 7-month contract based in Rosebank, Gauteng.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing specific categories to support the broader portfolio strategy and business ambitions, aiming to improve business performance through commercial agreements, fostering innovation, supplier partnerships, and internal stakeholder collaboration.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or relevant tertiary qualification
- Proven practical experience in a role of similar complexity
- Information Management experience is essential
- IAITAM certification is advantageous
- Proficiency in Microsoft, SAP, IBM, Siemens, Honeywell
- Knowledge of software vendors, contracts, and licensing models
- Understanding of IT Architecture and translating business needs into contractual terms
- Awareness of risks related to Data privacy, Generative AI, and cloud computing
- Strong technical knowledge across the Supply Chain value chain
- Ability to integrate Commercial, PSC, Supplier Management & Purchasing disciplines
- Focus on Safety & Sustainability within Supply Chain & Inclusive Procurement
- Excellent commercial, negotiation, and business case development skills
- Experience in Category Management, sourcing, contracting, and Total Cost Ownership
- Supplier Relationship Management expertise
- Business Planning and Business Case development capabilities
- Knowledge of regional and local Inclusive Procurement requirements
- Ability to create an agile, focused working environment
- Advanced communication skills in English (verbal and written)

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Support safety, health, and sustainability initiatives and incorporate these into contractual documentation
- Include Contractor Performance Management requirements in contracts to meet safety expectations
- Identify value creation opportunities to enhance safety and social performance with responsible suppliers
Delivery & Performance
- Develop category strategies, support business cases, and execute sourcing and contracting activities
- Promote an agile Supply Chain responsive to changing business needs
- Manage projects related to key initiatives
Commercial Value Delivery & Supplier Partnering
- Support broader category strategy development with data, analysis, and market intelligence
- Develop strategies aligned with regional priorities to optimize costs and Total Cost of Ownership
- Implement value creation and engagement strategies with suppliers
- Manage relationships with strategic suppliers to foster innovation and value
- Participate in negotiations and finalize framework agreements
Planning
- Plan and execute activities related to contracts in the category portfolio
- Identify and track value and inclusive procurement opportunities
- Monitor progress against management targets
- Contribute to budget and resource planning
Sourcing & Contracts Management
- Oversee contract lifecycle and ensure timely administration and performance management
- Support implementation of bespoke agreements and resolve escalated issues
- Support risk mitigation and opportunity realization within the portfolio
Inclusive Procurement
- Address community-specific needs and develop value creation opportunities
- Drive inclusive procurement culture and strategies
- Ensure targets are met and embed inclusive procurement in agreements
- Support supplier development and community engagement initiatives
Sustainability & Social
- Promote sustainable value through ESG and innovation initiatives
- Develop and implement strategies that align with company ambitions in sustainability and community development

- Build relationships with materials management and warehousing teams
