As the Head of Marketing for Transactional Banking within Absa CIB, you will play a pivotal leadership role in defining and executing the marketing vision for one of Absa’s most dynamic business units. This strategic position is responsible for driving demand generation, elevating brand equity, and ensuring our transactional banking solutions are positioned as indispensable tools for businesses shaping Africa’s economic future.

You will lead a high-performing team, harness data-driven insights, targeted segmentation, and compelling storytelling to turn insight into measurable demand (ROI), ensuring every marketing initiative resonates with the evolving needs of corporate clients and delivers tangible business benefits that strengthen Absa’s role as a trusted partner in our clients’ success stories.

This is a unique opportunity for a visionary marketing leader to shape the future of Transactional Banking for Corporate and Investment Banking at Absa, driving both business impact and client success across Africa. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business, or a related field (postgraduate qualification preferred) and a minimum of 10 years of technical marketing and leadership experience within investment or corporate banking, with a proven track record in demand generation and digital marketing. Deep understanding of transactional banking products, markets, and client segments is essential.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Data-Driven Planning
  • Develop and execute a forward-thinking marketing strategy for Transactional Banking, aligned to Absa CIB’s business objectives and growth ambitions.
  • Translate business priorities into measurable marketing objectives, ensuring clear KPIs and robust ROI tracking.
  • Champion the use of analytics, market research, and client insights to inform marketing decisions, segment audiences, and optimize campaign performance.
  • Benchmark against industry best practices to ensure competitive differentiation.
  • Drive differentiated client experiences based on industry benchmarks and technological advancements.
  • Partner with business leads to define and prioritize strategic value propositions for business growth.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and innovative practices for continuous improvement.

End-to-End Event Lifecycle Management

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of B2B marketing initiatives from ideation to post-campaign analysis.
  • Develop customer journey frameworks integrating digital, direct, and experiential channels for maximum engagement.
  • Leverage data, client feedback, and industry trends to refine marketing tactics and messaging.
  • Manage risks through contingency planning and compliance audits.
  • Establish KPIs and monitoring systems to assess ROI and identify improvements.

Stakeholder & Supplier Governance

  • Build strong relationships with Transactional Banking leadership, product teams, and colleagues to align marketing efforts.
  • Manage third-party agencies and suppliers, ensuring delivery excellence and adherence to governance standards.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, safeguarding and enhancing the Absa brand across all touchpoints.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Africa and international corridors to align plans and messages.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a marketing team, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
  • Drive talent development, succession planning, and knowledge sharing.
  • Set objectives, provide feedback, and recognize contributions.
  • Coach team members for continuous improvement.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or related field required; postgraduate qualification preferred.
