Job Description

The Group Credit Management Head (Group Head Credit Management) is responsible for setting the group credit risk strategy and adhering to overall group credit appetite limits as approved by the Board. This includes the strategic optimisation and management of the group's credit portfolio. This position will ensure alignment with the group's credit risk appetite while adhering to funding and liquidity constraints.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and management of specific credit portfolios ensuring alignment with the group's overall credit strategy.
  • Oversee the construction of credit portfolios ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Monitor and manage all group credit portfolios (including investment credit and retail credit portfolios) to optimize performance while adhering to risk appetite and funding constraints, excluding OM Bank.
  • Monitor, in conjunction with group risk, the credit risk appetite for OM Bank and ensure adequate oversight and reporting via the OM Bank Board to meet Financial Conglomerate requirements.
  • Directly responsible for the allocation of group credit capital, ensuring efficient deployment in line with strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to facilitate effective mandate management across various credit portfolios.
  • Facilitate quarterly reporting in collaboration with the second line of defence to meet reporting obligations to the Management Group Credit Risk Committee (MGCRC).
  • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing portfolio performance, risk exposures, and capital utilization for senior management review.
  • Provide insights into large credit decisions requiring MGCRC approval, supported by robust analysis and risk assessments.
  • Ensure credit portfolio construction systems and rating tools are equipped for the scale and complexity of portfolios being modeled.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to existing systems and tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Requirements
  • NQF Level 8 Honours or Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent in Finance, Investments, or related fields.
  • Experience in credit risk assessment and evaluation, including financial statements, credit risk management, regulatory requirements for lending.
  • 8-10 years of experience in developing credit risk management frameworks within a large financial institution.
  • Ability to translate ideas into practical solutions and lead strategic projects.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.
  • Strong relationship-building skills; effective with diverse backgrounds (investment bankers, actuaries, risk managers, quantitative analysts).
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to develop and grow deliverables organically.
  • Leadership experience in leading a team.
  • Excellent communication skills; confident in engaging with senior management up to EXCO level.
