About the Position in the Film Arts Department

We seek to appoint a lecturer specializing in Film & TV, Digital Film, to teach at higher certificate, degree, and possibly postgraduate levels. The department covers subjects like Film & TV, Production Design, Screen Acting, Screenwriting, and Sound Design.

Role Description

The candidate should foster meaningful learning, mentorship, and industry engagement. Responsibilities include:

  1. Facilitating learning through creating moving image work, sourcing scripts, planning, and filming.
  2. Curriculum development and management.
  3. Providing course notes and mentoring students.
  4. Conducting assessments and hosting screenings.
  5. Organizing guest speakers and participating in campus events.
  6. Engaging in strategic initiatives and administrative tasks.
  7. Collaborating with colleagues and maintaining industry links.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Applicants should have broad knowledge of filmmaking equipment, digital workflows, practical filming and editing skills, and a strong understanding of cinema history and current trends. Enthusiasm and visual sensibility are essential, along with good interpersonal and communication skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.

Minimum Requirements

Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) or higher in Film & Television or similar, with a portfolio of work. Preference for candidates with MA degrees, industry experience, and teaching experience at tertiary level. Additional skills in related disciplines are advantageous.

Contract Details

This is a permanent position, adjusted to 60% of full-time hours (around 3 days/week), with salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Starting date: June.
