Job description

Our opportunity : Financial Accountant - Financial Reporting

The role holder will join the Financial Accounting and Reporting Department and assist with accounting and reporting tasks in line with the company requirements. The role entails effective reporting, monitoring, and control measures in an ethically and technically correct manner and in line with IFRS requirements.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Functional Management
    • This role reports into the Head of Statutory Reporting and its responsibilities span across all legal entities within the Group.
    • Manage the general ledger team (3 direct reports) and its operating activities.
    • Preparation or review of manual SAP Journals.
    • Prepare investment accounting journal entries (money market accounts, equities, bonds) ensuring timely and IFRS-compliant recording.
    • Prepare and post other head office journal entries to ensure accurate and timely recording.
    • Preparation and review of entity balance sheet reconciliations and dashboards.
    • Preparation of month-end finance packs (Consolidation and separate legal entities) in line with reporting timelines (IFRS 4 and 17 Packs).
    • Quarterly reporting submission to the Group via the OneStream System (latest by the 12th calendar day post quarter-end).
    • Support the actuarial team with quarterly and annual SAM submissions for statutory and regulatory reporting to the Prudential Authority.
    • Complete statutory returns (e.g., C68 Forms Submission to SARB).
    • Prepare adhoc financial reports as requested.
    • Tax-related tasks: prepare income tax and deferred tax calculations, provisional and annual tax returns, dividend tax returns, and upload on SARS eFiling System.
    • Assist in managing external audits, including audit requests, financial statements, and relevant processes.
    • Prepare annual financial statements for all entities and support subsidiary financial processes.
    • Support automation projects related to quarter-end and year-end processes.
    • Ensure internal control compliance regarding financial reporting.
    • Drive stakeholder engagement with finance senior management, actuarial team, and other finance teams.
    • Promote teamwork within finance, actuarial, and related departments.
    • Act as an ambassador for the company's culture and values.

Education and Experience

CA(SA) with 2-3 years' management experience in relevant fields. Exposure to insurance (life, general, reinsurance) is highly preferred. Sound knowledge of IFRS, including IFRS 17, and SAM solvency legislation and reporting requirements is essential.
