Position: Commercial Manager

To support the Director - Commercial – Southern Africa in managing the regional sales team to achieve national objectives, including increasing sales growth and ensuring profitable revenue growth.

This role involves coordinating and managing the sales team regionally.

Key Performance Areas:
  1. Build a regional sales pipeline of strategic blue-chip accounts and deliver aggressive sales targets within the international freight forwarding market.
  2. Liaise with group key account managers to identify forwarding and clearing opportunities.
  3. Develop sales strategies targeting 'right to win' accounts in identified verticals.
  4. Target and acquire new profitable business.
  5. Manage Business Development Managers regionally, including onboarding and maintaining a talent pipeline.
  6. Ensure appropriate headcount to sales ratio.
  7. Report on sales pipeline and accuracy.
  8. Support national sales activities, including campaigns, presentations, proposals, and client engagement.
  9. Coordinate and support group, customer, and sales events.
  10. Execute sales strategies based on market intelligence and analysis.
  11. Provide commercial input for tenders and proposals, and nurture strategic partnerships.
  12. Align internal and external client requirements with market trends and business intelligence.
  13. Facilitate the design and implementation of supply chain solutions.
  14. Align team performance with sales strategy and manage recruitment and succession planning.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Matric; Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Marketing, or Logistics (advantageous).
  • Minimum 10+ years' experience in International Freight Forwarding, with 3-5 years in a regional or national sales management role.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales growth targets.
  • Strong networking and customer relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including presentations and reporting.
  • Valid driver's license and own vehicle.
  • Ability to work under pressure, independently, and as part of a team.
  • Good geographical knowledge of countries, gateways, ports, and cultural interfaces.
