Job description

Job Title: Financial Accountant - Financial Reporting

Location: Gauteng, Johannesburg

Application Deadline: June 14, 2025

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Report to the Head of Statutory Reporting, overseeing responsibilities across all legal entities within the Group.
  • Manage the general ledger team (3 direct reports) and its operational activities.
  • Prepare or review manual SAP journal entries.
  • Prepare investment accounting journal entries for money market accounts, equities, and bond instruments.
  • Record investment transactions timely and in compliance with IFRS and Group reporting standards.
  • Prepare and post head office journal entries to ensure accurate and timely recording in the accounting system.
  • Prepare and review entity balance sheet reconciliations and dashboards.
  • Compile month-end finance packs for consolidation and individual entities, adhering to IFRS 4 and 17 reporting timelines.
  • Submit quarterly reports to Fairfax Group via OneStream, deadline the 12th calendar day post quarter-end.
  • Support actuarial team with quarterly and annual SAM submissions for regulatory reporting to the Prudential Authority.
  • Complete statutory returns such as C68 forms for SARB.
  • Handle ad hoc financial reporting requests.
  • Prepare income tax and deferred tax calculations, provisional and annual tax returns, dividend tax returns, and upload on SARS e-filing system.
  • Assist in external audit processes, including audit requests and financial statement preparation.
  • Prepare annual financial statements for all entities and support subsidiary accounting processes.
  • Support automation projects related to quarter-end and year-end processes.
  • Maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with financial reporting standards.
  • Engage with stakeholders including senior management, actuarial team, and finance teams to promote effective communication and teamwork.

  • Finance Management: Heads of Management Reporting, Reinsurance, Actuarial, and Projects
  • Bryte CFO and Finance Team

Qualifications & Experience
  • B. Comm in Accounting or CA(SA)
  • 2-3 years management experience in relevant fields
  • Experience in insurance (life, general, reinsurance) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, including IFRS 17 for insurance accounting
  • Understanding of SAM solvency legislation and reporting
  • Experience in accounting/financial services roles
