Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to manage a team of designers/engineers to deliver high quality, cost effective, and timely engineering solutions to customers. Each day, you will formulate plans and allocate resources to meet the agreed contractual and financial targets. You will also showcase your expertise by initiating, coordinating, driving, and overseeing team development and continual improvement of processes and procedures to strengthen the engineering and design capability. You will be mainly accountable for: Strategy and organizational leadership
- Ensures development of performance targets in line with global/local targets and their achievement through regular oversight and defining required actions for improvement.
- Embraces and implements ABB’s core values and HSE, functional safety, cybersecurity, integrity, Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), and other people related strategies within the local engineering unit / team.
- Prioritizes, engages the team, and implements actions from the engagement survey. Customer and sales
- Ensures delivery of technical solutions according to customer requirements.
- Drives development of processes/practices based on customer feedback.
- Provides engineering support during the bid phase and ensures that the resources required to deliver the technical solutions are correctly accounted (e.g., safety, cybersecurity, technical competence, quality, schedule, and cost requirements). Technical leadership and development
- Defines operating guidelines for the team and ensures their implementation.
- Oversees progress within their own area of responsibility and identifies and manages technical issues.
- Guides the team in building engineering / operational capability through training, mentoring, and shadowing programs.
- Supports the local division in establishing and deploying required frameworks / processes.
- Conducts and follows-up on certification process, jointly with the division.
- Ensures that appropriate processes are in place to capture and share best practices and operational experiences.
- Facilitates the sharing of best practices within the Engineering team. People leadership and development
- Ensures (with HR support) that their own area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed, skilled, and directed.
- Guides, motivates, coaches, and develops direct and indirect subordinates in line with HR policies.
- Provides direction to the engineering team with a focus on functional safety, cybersecurity, on time delivery, quality, and margin improvement. Processes and tools
- Ensures the projects/operations value chain portfolio follows sound methodology and execution practices in accordance with internal standard procedures and that the projects are closed as per the contract specifications.
- Initiates, coordinates, drives, and oversees continual improvement of processes and procedures to strengthen the engineering / design capability and efficiency, utilize agile methodologies to reduce engineering lead time, and enhance functional safety and cybersecurity.
- Conducts management reviews to guide the operation of continuous improvement activities. Finance and budget
- Participates in defining the annual budget for their own area of responsibility and is accountable for managing performance against agreed financial targets and constraints. Risk and opportunity management
- Conducts regular progress reviews and identifies and manages technical risks.
- Ensures the completion of risk and opportunity assessments (e.g. variation orders and claims) and the implementation of resulting actions across projects.
- Establishes and oversees Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and identifies, and manages technical issues.
- Facilitates problem solving. Planning and control
- Drives team performance to ensure that the deliverables are met on time and as per the set contract specifications and safety, cyber security, and quality requirements.
- Ensures that the Engineering teams are adequately resourced, developed, and equipped to meet business needs.
- Monitors quality metrics / Key Performance Indicators (KPI), identifies opportunities, and oversees continual improvement activities. Supply chain management
- Collaborates with supply chain and project management to negotiate with suppliers of services and equipment to meet the contractual obligations of systems orders. Technical Consulting
- Ensures technical consulting assignments (if applicable) are carried out to meet pre-contractual or contractual obligations.
- Defines operating guidelines for the team and facilitates problem solving. Testing
- Ensures that type tests (if applicable) are carried out to meet the contractual obligations.
- Ensures that factory acceptance tests / inspections at suppliers’ premises (if applicable) are carried out to meet the contractual obligations of systems orders.
- Provides necessary support to project management, manufacturing, and/or quality during the validation testing of integrated factory acceptance test and/or digital solutions. Commissioning
- Ensures commissioning activities (if applicable) are implemented in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards safety requirements, cyber security policies and standards.
Qualifications For The Role
- Minimum 5 years relevant industry experience in a managerial role
- Electrical Heavy current Engineering Degree
- Must be ECSA registered
- Good knowledge of international and local engineering standards
