Job description

• Resort in the Central Drakensberg has an exciting opportunity for an Estate Groundskeeper / Stable Assistant .

The candidate will also be involved in the horses and stables operation at the Resort.

This is a junior supervisory role.

Duties :

Must have knowledge of gardens, plants, trees and understand and identify alien vegetation, as well as the caring, pruning, maintenance and upkeep of display gardens and hotel surrounds

Must have experience with the rearing of horses and other animals, ensuring regular checks are done to ensure the health and wellbeing of horses and other animals

Must be competent to operate garden and estate machinery such as ride on lawnmowers, brush cutters, tractor and other vehicles if required.

Basic maintenance knowledge to cover in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.

Health and safety requirements for the safe and effective operating of all machinery and equipment for the stables and garden departments

Experience in firefighting and understanding requirements for pro-active fire prevention

Requirements :

Grade 10 / Grade 12 will be an advantage

Any other courses or certification to benefit the carrying out of your duties

Minimum of 2 years in a 4 / 5-star hotel in a supervisory role as an Estates Groundkeeper / Stable Manager

Having previously worked at a hotel in an isolated environment

Must have competency in operating machinery such as ride on lawnmowers, brush cutters and tractor competency, firefighting equipment and chainsaws.

Speak, read and write in English, complete order books, rosters and basic HR functions

Must be able to ride horses at an advanced level and be able to recognise any disease or ill health of the animals

Have worked in a hotel before in the estates / stables department

Be trustworthy to safeguard guest and company assets

The ability to resolve estate issues and ensure scheduled work is completed.
