Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Quantity Surveyor to oversee post-award contract management for projects in execution.
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of five years’ experience progressing from Junior to Senior Quantity Surveyor,
as well as an additional five years’ experience in contract management or administration, preferably in a current role involving contract oversight.
The successful candidate will be responsible for all commercial and contractual aspects of project execution, ensuring compliance with contract terms,
managing claims, variations, and payment processes, and overseeing dispute resolution procedures while mitigating commercial risks.
Minimum requirements:

  • National Diploma, B-Tech, or Degree in Quantity Surveying OR
  • National Diploma or B-Tech in the Built Environment Faculty (e.g., Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Quantity Surveying, progressing from junior to senior level.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in contract management or administration, preferably in an active contract management role.
  • Strong understanding of NEC3 (TSC, SC, ECC), FIDIC Red Book, and bespoke contracts.
  • Proven expertise in contract claims, payment certificates, disputes, variations, and change management.
  • Experience in boiler and power generation industries, including paper mills, coal-fired power stations, and industrial plants.
  • Strong commercial acumen, negotiation skills, and risk management capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for drafting contract correspondence and reports.
  • Proficiency in contract management software and cost control tools.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Contract Management and Administration:
    • Manage post-award execution of contracts under NEC3 (TSC, SC, ECC), FIDIC Red Book (Construction), and bespoke contracts.
    • Interpret and ensure compliance with contract terms, conditions, and obligations.
    • Maintain accurate contract documentation and records throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Advise project teams on contractual risks and strategies to mitigate them.
    • Ensure timely issuance of notices for claims, disputes, and variation orders in accordance with contract provisions.


  • Financial and Commercial Management:
    • Prepare and manage payment applications, payment certificates, and cash flow forecasts.
    • Conduct cost control, budget tracking, and commercial reporting to support project financial performance.
    • Assess and certify contractor and supplier payments while ensuring compliance with contractual agreements.
    • Handle change management processes, including the evaluation and approval of variations.


  • Claims, Disputes and Variations:
    • Prepare and submit contractual claims, including extensions of time (EOT), loss and expense claims, and compensation events.
    • Lead dispute resolution processes, ensuring timely notification and adherence to contractual dispute mechanisms.
    • Draft and review contractual correspondence, including letters for notifying variation orders, claim submissions, and disputes.


  • Industry Experience and Compliance:
    • Apply extensive knowledge of paper mill boilers, coal-fired power station boilers, mills, and other power generation plant industries, including biomass, waste-to-energy, gas-fired plants, and industrial boilers.
    • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and safety protocols relevant to boiler and power plant contracts.
    • Engage with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure alignment with contract deliverables.
