Our client, a global strategic management consulting firm, is seeking to recruit an Environmental Economist Consultant within their dynamic Climate, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure team.

The ideal candidate is an energetic problem-solver, open-minded, with a multi-perspective view on international development, natural resource management, infrastructure delivery, governance systems, and policies.

Main Purpose of the Role :

To support the delivery of the firm's conservation, biodiversity, climate, natural resource management, and infrastructure portfolio, as well as their long-term consulting and project implementation assignments.

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Applying technical expertise to deliver environmental-economic work with private and public sector clients, including natural capital and ecosystem services assessments, natural capital accounting, project appraisal, and designing market-based mechanisms for environmental management and sustainable financing.
  2. Supporting the design and application of economic tools, innovative approaches, and policy measures to address issues in natural capital accounting, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, climate change mitigation and adaptation, nature-based solutions, natural resources management, and sustainable livelihoods.
  3. Producing high-quality economic research and analysis on costs and benefits, including impacts on natural capital and ecosystem services, of various natural resource and infrastructure projects and policies.
  4. Applying non-market valuation methods to assess and communicate the value of biodiversity and ecosystem services to diverse audiences.
  5. Supporting project teams in designing and conducting cost-benefit analyses.
  6. Contributing to project deliverables and taking ownership of specific components.
  7. Developing and presenting findings confidently to clients, partners, and senior decision-makers in government, development finance institutions, and the private sector.
  8. Assisting with project management, coordination, and administration.
  9. Actively contributing to business development and proposal writing.

Qualifications and Experience :

Required :

  1. Undergraduate degree in Economics, Environmental Science, Finance, or a related field; postgraduate qualification in Environmental, Ecological, or Natural Resource Economics, Econometrics, Finance, or Environmental Science.
  2. 3-5 years of experience in consultancy or relevant corporate roles.
  3. Proficiency in Excel and other quantitative/statistical software.
  4. Experience in preparing cost-benefit assessments and valuing non-market benefits.

Preferred :

  1. Interest or practical experience working in Africa and frontier markets.
  2. Proficiency in French, Portuguese, or Spanish is advantageous.

Key Skills and Attributes :

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and produce high-quality analytical work.
  • Strong ability to analyze environmental and economic data and communicate findings effectively to varied audiences.
  • Ability to integrate economic analysis with biophysical modeling for ecosystem service assessment.

  • Motivated by contributing to global betterment and belief in the impact of dedicated individuals.
