Job description

Job Title: Assistant Director: Legal, Governance, Risk and Compliance

Requirements
  • An LLB Degree; admission as an advocate or attorney (preferable but not mandatory).
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of legal experience with knowledge in legal administration spheres such as constitutional law, administrative law, interpretation of statutes, contract law, civil procedure, labour law, law of evidence, law of delict, commercial transactions law, and post-school education laws.
  • Experience in governance, risk, and/or compliance within the private or public sector, with a strong understanding of the law and government prescripts in the PSET sector.
Key Duties
  1. Assist the National Skills Fund with drafting submissions for approval, review business activities for compliance, and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  2. Evaluate and report on risk processes, compile audit reports, and support legal services including legal opinions and litigation management.
  3. Conduct legal research, provide legal advice, and coordinate with legal advisors and external attorneys to ensure proper legal representation.
  4. Participate in meetings, adhere to organizational policies, and support colleagues. Demonstrate deep knowledge of legislative frameworks, policies, and procedures governing the public sector.
  5. Apply strategic thinking, technology, budgeting, communication, and project management skills. Exhibit qualities such as integrity, teamwork, and adaptability.
  6. Maintain service orientation, customer focus, and meet deadlines. Willingness to travel and work irregular hours is essential.
