Purpose Statement

• To solve business problems, create new products and services, and improve processes through the disciplines of data science, translating active business data into usable strategic information.
• To analyze and optimize data related to specific business areas, framing data analysis in terms of decision-making processes for questions or business problems posed by stakeholders.
• To help build and deliver Capitec's AI/Machine Learning strategy, enabling data-led and improved business decision-making. Design advanced analytics models that answer business questions and discover opportunities for improvement, increased revenue, or reduced costs.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

• Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Engineering, or Computer Science plus 4+ years of relevant work experience, or
• Honours Degree in the same fields plus 3+ years of relevant experience, or
• Master's Degree in Data Science or relevant discipline (Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science).

Knowledge:

• Functional knowledge of business areas (e.g., Credit)
• Understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., NCR, POPIA, SARB)
• Business analysis, requirements gathering, translating into specifications, and designing solutions
• Experience with modern software development practices
• Working in cloud environments (Azure, AWS)
• Knowledge of different operating systems, databases, and programming languages
• Predictive modeling techniques (statistical and machine learning) and deployment
• Data extraction, cleaning, and analysis from large relational databases
• Understanding of the Data Science lifecycle

Functional Skills

• Programming, database manipulation, data exploration, and visualization
• Statistical model development
• Advanced computer literacy (Office Suite, remote Linux environments, Docker)
• Model building and deployment
• Experience with ML languages (e.g., SQL, SAS)
• Version control
• Solution design and productionalization
• Ability to learn and apply complex machine learning methodologies
• Domain knowledge of the specific environment (e.g., credit)
• Problem-solving skills with domain expertise
• Cloud computing proficiency
