Introduction

This position will be based at Quality Laboratory Services (QLS), Rustenburg.

Description

The purpose of this position is to conduct microbiological analysis in the laboratory according to client needs and ISO 17025 standards.

Qualification Requirements

• Grade 12
• Three-year Diploma or Degree in Biotechnology

Experience and Skills Requirements

• Minimum 1 year experience in microbiological analysis
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment
• English language proficiency
• Time management skills
• Computer literacy, especially MS Office

Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure correct chemical control measures are followed at all times
• Receive samples, register samples, and liaise with clients
• Prepare media for tests and perform quality assurance on media
• Prepare quality control tests
• Prepare samples
• Perform tests according to Standard Operating Procedures: water, swab, and food samples
• Compile reports for clients, scan reports, and send approved results
• In the Water Section: conduct tests and compile reports as per SOPs
• Calibrate pipettes, micropipettes, and glassware; maintain records
• Perform administrative duties to ensure accurate records and budget compliance
• Compile and distribute production reports
• Assist with stock control and invoicing at month-end
• Oversee laboratory test work to ensure accuracy and quality
• Ensure adherence to quality standards, calibrations, and certifications
• Conduct tests for Proficiency Testing Schemes
• Implement corrective actions and monitor objectives and targets
• Monitor laboratory processes to ensure compliance with ISO 17025 and legislative standards
• Manage time and resources efficiently to meet deadlines
