Key Accounts Manager Railways Mechanical Engineer East Rand

Responsible to : Sales Manager Southern Africa with dotted line reporting to Industry Lead Africa

Job purpose

  1. Implement and drive the sales strategy in the rail industry within South Africa and Africa, including setting and delivering agreed targets.
  2. Maximise sales growth and optimise profits through effective go-to-market strategies.
  3. Establish plans and strategies to expand the customer base in Africa, and develop and secure new direct customers.

Requirements:

  • Mechanical Engineering Diploma / Degree
  • Valid unendorsed SA Driver's Licence
  • 3-5 years proven industrial / engineering product sales experience in the rail industry
  • Experience in receiving, completing, and submitting tenders
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding targets
  • Experience in establishing and developing strategic and new business
  • Proven ability to drive the sales process from planning to closing
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Business understanding and knowledge of financial tools
  • High energy levels and drive
  • Willingness to travel
  • Value selling experience in the industrial market
  • Good understanding of the rail industry in Southern Africa and Africa
  • Up-to-date rail industry / product knowledge

Additional considerations:

  • High-paced position requiring multitasking, concentration, and quick decision-making.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to react to operational requirements.
  • Ability to analyze data and review or prepare tenders.
  • Extensive travel (>50%) to visit and engage with customers.

Health and safety / exposure to risk

  • Occasional risk exposure during travel or on-site at customers.

Description of duties

  1. Identify and target key strategic accounts in the rail industry.
  2. Seek profitable business opportunities and maintain market intelligence.
  3. Promote the industrial market portfolio in the rail industry.
  4. Develop sales and segment growth strategies aligned with Key Account structures.
  5. Manage the sales funnel and lead negotiations for contracts and tenders.
  6. Develop and maintain relationships with rail customers and end users.
  7. Deploy price leadership and value-based selling strategies.

Performance management objectives include achieving sales, profit, and other targets, utilizing C4C for planning and documenting activities, developing profitable business initiatives, expanding the number of direct rail customers, and establishing a clear sales funnel.

Primary leadership objectives involve acting as a role model and ambassador for the company, driving change and innovation, and maintaining stakeholder relationships while working collaboratively in cross-disciplinary teams.

Assets and decision-making responsibilities include being responsible for equipment and communication of critical business information, making data-driven decisions, and possessing excellent presentation, negotiation, and influencing skills to effectively deliver key messages and influence at all levels.
