Responsibilities
  1. Perform daily inspection of machines and provide feedback on routine inspections.
  2. Write reports on findings and carry out machine servicing and overhauls as instructed by the workshop manager.
  3. Ensure tasks are completed in coordination with the workshop supervisor, keeping the Maintenance Supervisor informed of progress.
  4. Conduct scheduled maintenance servicing as allocated by the maintenance supervisor.
  5. Maintain the 't' card system, ensuring it is updated and efficient.
  6. Inform the maintenance supervisor or production manager when consumables need reordering or when equipment requires repair.
  7. Adhere to health and safety policies in the workshop and ensure a clean, safe working environment.
  8. Utilise downtime productively for best practices and training.
  9. Review drawings and blueprints to determine materials, methods, and settings for specific parts and processes.
  10. Fit parts into machinery, checking for accuracy and fit, and use tools to cut, file, bore, and drill metal components.
  11. Diagnose machine problems, report issues, and ensure safety regulations are followed.
  12. Create maintenance schedules and perform system maintenance accordingly.
  13. Conduct diagnostic testing to identify root causes of malfunctions.
  14. Replace damaged structural components as needed.
  15. Follow all safety rules and regulations on-site.
  16. Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
  • Time-served and qualified fitter capable of interpreting drawings.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Practical skills in repairing and maintaining equipment.
  • Ability to work well with hands and as part of a team or independently.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness.
  • Flexible, proactive, and able to work under pressure.
  • Respect for others' personalities.
