Job description

We are looking for an efficient and organized Transport Controller to oversee and manage daily transport operations. The successful candidate will ensure fleet movements run smoothly, deliveries are on schedule, and vehicle compliance is maintained.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Plan, coordinate, and monitor vehicle routes and driver schedules.
  2. Track and manage fleet movements using GPS or tracking systems.
  3. Ensure timely deliveries and resolve transport issues promptly.
  4. Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules and compliance with road safety regulations.
  5. Monitor fuel usage, driver performance, and cost efficiency.
  6. Prepare transport reports and maintain records of trips, incidents, and maintenance.
  7. Communicate with drivers, clients, and internal teams to ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications & Requirements (South Africa):

Minimum: Matric / Grade 12 Certificate.

Preferred:

  1. Diploma or Certificate in Transport Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Fleet Management.
  2. Bachelors Degree in Logistics, Transport, or Business Administration is advantageous.
Experience:
  1. 2+ years of experience in a transport, logistics, or fleet control role.
  2. Strong knowledge of South African road regulations and transport legislation (e.g., National Road Traffic Act).
  3. Experience with transport management software or GPS tracking systems.
Certifications:
  1. Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) is advantageous, especially for hands-on fleet involvement.
  2. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Certification beneficial for ensuring safety compliance.
  3. First Aid or Defensive Driving Certification advantageous for emergency handling.
Skills:
  1. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  2. Strong communication and leadership abilities.
  3. Ability to work under pressure and handle unexpected transport issues.
  4. Analytical mindset for cost control and route optimization.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and fleet management software.
