Job summary

A leading telecommunications company is seeking a Specialist in Sustainability and ESG to support their sustainability strategy. Description

Mission/ Core purpose of the Job:

The Specialist: Sustainability and ESG will play a critical role in supporting Bayobab’s sustainability strategy, focusing on the measurement, management, and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors. This role will be responsible for data collection, analysis, reporting, and implementation of initiatives to reduce our environmental footprint and enhance our ESG performance. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of emissions accounting methodologies, ESG frameworks, and relevant regulatory requirements.

Key Performance Areas:

Responsibilities:

Emissions Management:

  • Collect, analyse, and manage GHG emissions data across all scopes (Scope 1, 2, and 3) using established methodologies
  • Develop and maintain accurate emissions inventories and reporting systems.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for emissions reduction and energy efficiency improvements.
  • Support the implementation of emissions reduction projects and track progress.
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant emissions regulations and reporting requirements.

ESG Reporting and Disclosure:

  • Assist in the preparation of ESG reports and disclosures, aligned with relevant frameworks
  • Gather and analyse data on key ESG metrics, including environmental, social, and governance performance indicators.
  • Support the development and implementation of ESG data management systems.
  • Respond to ESG-related inquiries from stakeholders, including investors, customers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct materiality assessments.

ESG Strategy and Implementation:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the company's ESG strategy and goals.
  • Support the integration of ESG considerations into business operations and decision-making processes.
  • Conduct research and analysis on emerging ESG trends and best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to promote sustainability initiatives and awareness.
  • Support the company in achieving carbon neutrality or Net Zero goals.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant environmental regulations and ESG reporting requirements.
  • Identify and assess ESG-related risks and opportunities.
  • Support the development and implementation of risk mitigation strategies.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders on ESG matters.
  • Support the development of communication materials related to ESG performance.
  • Work with suppliers to improve their ESG performance.

Role Deliverables and contributes to:

  • Collaborate with other Digital Infrastructure business units to provide analysis and inputs for the ESG strategy, and reporting in regard to Bayobab’s Fixed and Mobility infrastructure services
  • Collect, analyse, and manage ESG data from various sources.
  • Prepare accurate and timely ESG reports, including sustainability reports, annual reports, and responses to investor questionnaires.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD, EU Taxonomy).
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including investors, customers, employees, and community groups, on sustainability issues.
  • Respond to stakeholder inquiries and concerns related to ESG performance.
  • Support the development of stakeholder communication materials.
  • Stay informed of evolving sustainability regulations and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental and social regulations.

Job Requirements :

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
  • English and additional language is an advantage.

Experience

  • Two years of experience in emissions management and/or ESG reporting in Telecom industry is an advantage
  • Worked across diverse culture and geographies.

Other:

  • Strong understanding of GHG Protocol and other relevant emissions accounting methodologies.
  • Knowledge of ESG frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD) and reporting standards.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in using software and tools for emissions management and ESG reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of relevant regional and national environmental law.
  • Experience in conducting Scope 3 emissions calculations is highly desirable.

Authorities:

  • Access to the Bayobab group and the FibreCo’s ESG platforms and data.
  • Manage FibreCo stakeholders and suppliers within the ESG framework.
  • Reports, inputs and analysis on sustainability landscape.

  • CEO, EXCO, and Senior Managers
  • Internal stakeholders, Employees at all levels.
  • External stakeholders e.g. suppliers, Operating companies, sustainability partners
