Job description

This opportunity entails working in the Gauteng Recoveries Team, supporting the Recoveries Legal Team in administrative matters, and managing a personal portfolio across unsecured portfolios. This role requires strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of legal processes, and the ability to work collaboratively within a large team. The role requires presence in the Sandton office with an alternate presence in the Pretoria office every second week, on a pre-set day, as needed.

Experience, Skills, and Capabilities
  1. Assist the legal team with administrative tasks.
  2. Manage a portfolio of unsecured recoveries matters, ensuring timely progress, resolution, and recovery.
  3. Understand and adhere to timelines for various tasks and requests, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  4. Collaborate effectively with team members to facilitate smooth operations.
  5. Conduct legal research and assist with the preparation of legal documents.
  6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legal processes, especially regarding the National Credit Act (NCA).
  7. Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members about case progress and requirements.
  8. Provide general support to the legal team as needed.
  9. Engage with clients via various mediums to understand their financial distress and facilitate resolution.
  10. Review and implement payment arrangements with clients.
  11. Handle administration in the portfolio, including system updates, document uploads, write-offs, and note-keeping.
  12. Generate comprehensive monthly reports on the portfolio as required.
  13. Adhere to credit policies, SLAs, recovery workflows, and default policies.
  14. Liaise with legal practitioners, providing necessary documentation such as certificates of balances and statements.
  15. Develop and maintain relationships with clients, legal practitioners, and key stakeholders.
  16. Ensure compliance with the NCA, bank policies, and relevant legislation.
  17. Prepare detailed handover packs for legal practitioners.
  18. Manage, monitor, and reduce the aging of the unsecured portfolio.
  19. Possess a relevant qualification in paralegal studies or a related field (preferred).
  20. Have at least 2 years' experience in a legal environment, especially in recoveries or collections (advantageous).
  21. Exhibit strong administrative, organizational, and communication skills.
  22. Ability to work well within a large team and contribute positively to team dynamics.
