Profile Summary :

At HID, as part of the Physical Access Control Systems business unit, we produce cutting-edge security products. The PACS business is highly visible and one of our most significant portfolios within HID Global. The PACS products include smart cards, mobile access and identifications, software, services, and controllers for physical access control.

You will join as a firmware engineer working with teams in a Scaled Agile environment. The primary focus is on developing the Biometrics product line within an embedded Linux environment, implementing secure and high-performance applications.

Physical Access Control Solutions (PACS)

HID's Physical Access Control Solutions Business Area :

This unit focuses on growing new and existing clients by leveraging the latest card and reader technologies to address security challenges. Other focus areas include authentication, card subsystems, encoding, Biometrics, location services, and all aspects of physical access control infrastructure.

Role & Responsibilities :

  1. Collaborate with teams to ensure successful product delivery.
  2. Participate in security reviews to identify issues.
  3. Assist in finding solutions to security problems.
  4. Prepare, review, and complete project documentation.
  5. Set up and maintain devops pipelines.
  6. Identify and resolve security-related issues.

Desired Skills & Experience :

  • Legally eligible to work in South Africa.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • BSc in Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of practical engineering experience.
  • Expertise in C / C++, capable of writing performant and maintainable code.
  • Proficiency in embedded Linux development.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies like Docker.
  • Ability to analyze problems and determine solutions.
  • Experience with in-circuit emulators, GNU toolchains, gdb, and cmake.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Experience with distributed embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with Git and workflows.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Familiarity with Yocto / Openembedded Linux.
  • Experience with Secure Software Development Lifecycles.
  • Knowledge of Cryptographic Standards.
  • Experience with QA processes and cybersecurity tools.
  • SAFe or Agile experience.
  • Experience with gitflow, DevSecOps, Snyk, and Zaproxy.
