A leading steel manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Maintenance Support Manager - Steel Making to lead asset reliability, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives at a high-performance production facility. This role offers a strategic leadership opportunity to manage maintenance teams, optimize plant performance, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
Requirements :
- B-Eng. Degree (NQF 8 / 10) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Management Development Program will be an advantage
Experience and Requirements :
- Minimum 10 years’ experience on a Steel plant
- SAP experience (plant maintenance and project systems)
- Experience in managing multiple maintenance teams
- Experience in the Steel Making environment – Hot Metal Handling, BOF, Secondary Metallurgy, Continuous Caster, Raw Materials Handling
- Computer literate with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Projects
Key Responsibilities :
- Ensuring safety for own section, including FPS compliance on level 5, LBIs, PSIFs, Safety Meetings, Forum 4, Pact Agreements, SFAs, and statutory cards. Managing all safety, health, environmental, and business risks for own section.
- Oversee and manage Execution Teams to effectively and efficiently execute scheduled work, ensure high-quality work execution, and balance resources across the area of responsibility based on plant priorities and business needs. Ensure proper feedback is given to the Plant Team via job cards to improve Work Identification, Planning, and Scheduling. Manage the Execution Teams and related logistics.
- Manage mechanical and electrical maintenance for execution teams delivering services to BOF, Secondary Metallurgy, Caster, and outside services in Steel Making.
- Manage planning and execution of all Steel Making planned shutdowns.
- Develop and maintain excellent employee and union relationships.
- Compile and execute maintenance strategies for the above areas.
- Manage maintenance systems for own areas.
- Actively drive continuous improvement and identify cost-saving ideas.
- Manage training requirements for the section and ensure the competency of subordinates in managerial, technical, and safety aspects.
- Coach and develop supervisory levels and high potential candidates.
