Job description

Purpose of Role: As a Senior HR Business Partner, you will play a crucial role in understanding and translating local business needs into powerful people initiatives that align with and support our business strategy. By partnering with stakeholders across the region, you will have the opportunity to significantly influence our people strategy and drive financial success throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • People Strategy: As a vital member of the Regional HR Team, you'll contribute to shaping the local business strategy. You'll leverage people analytics to guide strategic decisions, ensuring the effective implementation of the Strategic People Planning process. Additionally, you'll report on progress against key people indicators, driving impactful change and fostering a thriving workplace.
  • Organisational Effectiveness: Play a pivotal role in aligning reward programmes and benefits policies with organisational priorities and market competitiveness. Deliver effective change management and communications to support local business needs. Manage the employee/industrial relations strategy, including union agreements, awards, conditions of employment, trade union meetings, and employer organisation matters. Take charge of the BBBEE portfolio and lead the auditing verification process, ensuring compliance and excellence.
  • Industrial Relations and Trade Union Partnership: Take a leading role in managing and fostering positive relationships with trade unions. Align industrial relations strategies with organisational goals, ensuring fair and competitive conditions of employment. Facilitate effective communication and negotiation during union meetings, and manage union agreements and awards. Oversee the implementation of employer organisation matters, ensuring compliance and promoting a harmonious workplace environment.
  • Subject Matter Expertise in South African Legislation: As a subject matter expert, you'll provide in-depth knowledge and guidance on South Africa's Labour Relations Act (LRA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), and Employment Equity (EE) legislation. You'll ensure compliance with these laws, offering strategic advice and support to align organisational practices with legal requirements. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating complex legal landscapes, fostering fair and equitable workplace conditions, and driving organisational excellence.
  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviours in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Expertise Across African Countries: Possessing a deep understanding of labour laws and workplace policies across various African countries is a significant advantage. You'll navigate the unique legal landscapes of each jurisdiction, ensuring compliance with national labour codes, employment acts, and regional commitments. Your expertise will guide strategic decisions, foster fair and competitive employment conditions, and support effective change management across the continent.
  • Experience in Senior HR Roles: Bring your extensive experience in senior HR roles, with a strong focus on business partnering and talent management within manufacturing, engineering, or mining environments. Leverage your expertise with the Metal and Engineering Industries Bargaining Council (MEIBC) to navigate complex industrial relations and drive strategic HR initiatives. Your background will be instrumental in fostering a competitive and compliant workplace, ensuring alignment with industry standards and organisational goals.
  • Business Acumen and Stakeholder Collaboration: Utilise your strong business acumen to effectively partner with stakeholders, driving initiatives that enhance business profitability. Your strategic insights will help identify opportunities for growth and efficiency, ensuring that HR practices align with broader business objectives. By fostering collaborative relationships, you'll support stakeholders in making informed decisions that contribute to the financial success and sustainability of the organisation.
  • Cultural Transformation Expertise: Leverage your proven experience in transforming workplace cultures. Your strategic approach and leadership skills will drive initiatives that foster a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing environment. By implementing effective change management practices and engaging with employees at all levels, you'll cultivate a culture that enhances morale, productivity, and overall organisational success
