Job description

A leading chemical manufacturing company is looking for an Area Manager Downstream to join their industry-leading sales team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for revenue and profit growth of programs and services in targeted accounts within the Downstream division. Using a consultative sales approach, you will build relationships with existing customers by executing system assurance programs that meet their key business needs. With strong account leadership, you will also convert strategic competitive accounts and sell new technologies to current customers.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of boilers, cooling towers, wastewater treatment systems, or paper processing skills.
  • Knowledge of doing business within the Downstream Industries, Oil, and Gas.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or Life Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, etc.); MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of successful technical or outside sales experience, including engaging with multi-level plant or facilities management and developing executive-level relationships.
  • 5+ years leading and developing teams.
  • Ability to travel as required to support the district.
  • Current and valid driver’s license required.

Key Performance Areas

  • Drive profit growth to meet district profit increase goals by developing and executing a district plan to maximize revenue.
  • Interact regularly across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure objectives are met.
  • Generate sales forecasts and accurately predict monthly revenue.
  • Participate in strategic and tactical planning for the district by leveraging, allocating, and maximizing ROI for all tools and resources.
  • Construct business plans based on market drivers and analytics, monitoring and adjusting them according to shifts and emerging conditions.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership by championing corporate initiatives and leading district meetings.
  • Provide continuous coaching and development to sales engineers and technical service representatives to maintain value in the heavy industrial sector.
  • Ensure all new hires meet training standards to develop product and service expertise.
  • Address performance issues promptly, maintaining documentation and communicating status to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the team and internal partners in identifying trends, understanding market conditions, and sharing expertise.
  • Reinforce a clear vision aligned with strategic goals.
  • Work closely with large, strategic, current, and prospective customers to understand their business needs.
  • This position is based in South Africa, covering a radius of approximately 100 km around the area.
