Job description

Job Summary

Closely collaborates with the CEO, Corporate Director, Directors, and Project Managers in directing, coordinating, and exercising functional authority.

Initiates, plans, executes, monitors & controls, integrates, and closes civil projects within the assigned area.

Drives the implementation of the South Zambezi and Khato Civils, Electrical Engineering Division's growth vision.

Completes engineering projects by organizing and controlling various project elements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise engineers and draftspeople in the electrical department.
  • Design electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial and industrial purposes using computer-assisted engineering and design software.
  • Plan and implement research methodology and procedures applying principles of electrical theory to projects.
  • Collect information, perform calculations, and prepare diagrams and drawings of electrical installations and circuitry.
  • Provide preliminary drawings and samples to clients for selection and approval.
  • Study technical drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to ensure conformity to standards and customer requirements.
  • Ensure completed works meet specifications and safety standards.
  • Estimate labour, material, and construction costs; prepare specifications for purchasing materials and equipment.
  • Attend site meetings.
  • Supervise installation, startup, operation, and maintenance of electrical plants.
  • Perform limited project management for electrical engineering projects.
  • Produce design calculations, sketches, and detailed drawings using relevant software (Revit, Revizto, Dialux, ETAP), including review prior to issue.
  • Assist the project manager in preparing/reviewing project costs and risk assessments.
  • Represent South Zambezi Engineering Services during factory acceptance tests and site testing & commissioning activities.
  • Communicate project status to internal directors and external stakeholders (clients) both informally and formally.
  • Carry out other duties as requested by management, as business needs dictate.
Qualifications And Experience / Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar qualification.
  • Registered with ECSA or recognized professional body as a professional engineer.
  • Experience managing a team of junior and senior employees.
  • At least 15 years in engineering design, management, and construction.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in electrical / mechanical design.
  • Extensive experience in designing and constructing steel water pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, abstraction works, and water treatment plants.
  • Legal knowledge of Employee Equity Act, Labour and Employment laws, OHS Act, and design standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, and various civil and water design software.
  • Driver's license is essential.
  • Ensure ISO compliance in Quality Management.
  • Willingness to undertake regular inter-provincial and international site visits and meetings.
