Mechatronic Engineer / Millwright Machine Modernisation Engineer
Top Steel Product Manufacturing firm seeks a Machine Modernisation Engineer. The role involves modernising, improving, and expanding the plant's production and utility equipment by leading retrofit, acquisition, and cross-functional improvement projects across mechanical, electrical, and process domains.
Non-Negotiables

- 5 years of experience leading process and equipment upgrade projects in a steel manufacturing environment
- Exposure to PLC-based automation systems, HMIs, drives, and plant instrumentation integration for at least 5 years
- Managed technical supplier selection, capital equipment procurement, installation, and commissioning for 5 years
- Delivered continuous improvement projects focused on plant reliability, process optimization, and cost reduction

Key Responsibilities
This role is based in the Steel Product Manufacturing sector and involves:
- Identifying technical shortcomings in plant equipment and production processes using performance data and diagnostics
- Evaluating whether to upgrade existing equipment or source new technology based on technical and commercial viability
- Defining scope, coordinating cross-functional teams, and managing retrofit implementation for upgrades
- Leading supplier engagement, overseeing procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment
- Integrating improvements into plant systems to ensure long-term sustainability
Qualifications & Work Experience
- BEng or BSc in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering, or a qualified Millwright with strong project experience
- Experience leading equipment upgrade and acquisition projects in a steel manufacturing environment
- Experience integrating sensors and HMIs into production machines using Siemens PLCs
- Proficient in procuring and commissioning capital equipment through supplier evaluation and RFQ processes
- Proven track record in executing continuous improvement projects to enhance plant utility reliability and reduce energy consumption
Preferred Background
- Background in mechatronics or qualified millwright with multidisciplinary project exposure
