Associate Professor (AP)
PHARMACY PRACTICE
FACULTY OF PHARMACY

The Faculty of Pharmacy invites suitable candidates to join their Pharmacy Practice team.

The Faculty

Formal courses leading to a degree in Pharmacy at Rhodes University began in 1956, evolving through various stages to become the current Faculty of Pharmacy, established in 1980. It is currently the only Faculty of Pharmacy in South Africa. The university has a longstanding association with pharmacy education in South Africa, dating back to 1929.

The Faculty relocated to its current premises in 1988, equipped with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities.

The profession of pharmacy is dynamic, focusing on patient-centred care with a strong scientific foundation. The Bachelor of Pharmacy degree (BPharm) at Rhodes University prepares students for various career paths, including internships in diverse settings, registration as a Community Service Pharmacist, and full registration as a pharmacist upon completion of required training and assessments.

Main Objectives

Academics are responsible for teaching, research, community engagement, and administrative roles, contributing to their departments, faculty, and the profession.

The Requirements
  • A PhD in Pharmacy Practice, Clinical Pharmacy, or related field, with at least 10 years of teaching or professional experience.
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council as a pharmacist.
  • Extensive experience in teaching Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy courses.
  • Research supervision experience for Masters and PhD candidates.
  • Proven research publication record and ability to attract funding.
  • National and emerging international profile in the discipline.
  • Leadership experience and willingness to assume leadership roles.

Remuneration

Grade AP: Basic salary R936,120; Total cost to the university approximately R1,203,447 per annum.

This is a permanent position, with possible appointment on a fixed-term contract of at least three years. The university reserves the right not to fill the position.
