Job description

A chemical company in Blackheath, Cape Town, has an entry-level management opportunity available for a Production Manager ready to join at an entry level into management. As a Production Manager, you'll be involved with the planning, coordination, and supervising of the manufacturing processes.

You'll ensure goods and services are produced efficiently, at the right cost, and meet quality standards. Responsibilities include:

  1. Taking operational responsibility
  2. Participating in pre-production planning and overseeing production control and supervision
  3. Developing production schedules and resource planning
  4. Estimating costs and setting quality standards
  5. Monitoring production processes and adjusting schedules as needed
  6. Managing equipment maintenance and ensuring quality control
  7. Ensuring health and safety guidelines are followed
  8. Coordinating among departments such as management, dispatch, and procurement
  9. People management, including supervising and motivating staff, conducting performance reviews, and addressing HR functions

Skills required:

  1. Strong administrative and people management skills
  2. Planning and organizational abilities
  3. Decisiveness and problem-solving skills, especially related to staff and equipment issues
  4. Technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and machinery
  5. Computer literacy in Sage Evolution, Excel, Word
  6. Attention to detail and quality standards
  7. Effective communication and negotiation skills
  8. Ability to work under pressure and motivate teams

Minimum requirements:

  1. Relevant qualification and solid manufacturing experience in a similar role
  2. Understanding of maintenance, quality standards, and health & safety regulations
  3. Experience in reporting and performance evaluation
  4. Proficiency in MS Office
  5. Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  6. 5 to 10 years of work experience
  7. Certificate qualification level
