Legal Advisor Bloemfontein Free State

Our client, a leader in industrial manufacturing custom-engineered solutions, with branches Nationwide, is seeking a qualified and an experienced Legal Advisor to join their team.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be required to carry out all functions and duties as outlined hereunder as well as in respect of any such other duties and responsibilities related to the role, which may from time to time be assigned to the ideal candidate and which are reasonable and lawful:

Legal Functions

  1. A primary focus on supporting legal and commercial aspects within the Group of Companies operations in South Africa and abroad; Utilising independent discretion and sound judgement with the application of legislation.
  2. Vetting, drafting and negotiating legal agreements and matters on corporate law across a range of multi-disciplines; Professionally advising and implementing the Group of Companies terms and conditions thoroughly in each detail worked at.
  3. Preparing and formulating legal opinions, memoranda, briefing documents and formalities regarding the settlement of disputes and counseling in a timely manner; Obtaining relevant approval and managing instructions to external attorneys and/or authorities.
  4. Take initiative in conducting independent analysis and research on legal matters and tax- related legislation as to your primary focus area and advise on the best legal position to take on various conflict resolutions.
  5. Professional conduct by ensuring legal compliance in business and international trade matters and enacting risk management and/ or mitigation measures.
  6. Analysing the corporate tax position, consulting on various tax aspects and proposing prospects for improvement; Implementing tax solutions that are efficient in the Group of Companies' interest and facilitating South African Revenue Services (SARS) refunds, audits and compliance with customs.
  7. Absolute confidentiality in the handling of the Group of Companies' information obtained through transactions, agreements, legal documentation and enquiries.
  8. Utilising all necessary and available resources to its optimal capacity and potential.
  1. Implementing systems and procedures to record and manage all critical aspects in a multidisciplinary practice with constricted deadlines relating to your primary focus area.
  2. Attending weekly litigation meetings scheduled at such time and location as may be nominated by the director or senior management from time to time.
  3. Reporting daily to relevant role players concerning any aspect that may have a bearing on the projected settlement concerning regulatory compliance and/or disputes.
  4. Drafting of monthly litigation reports in the prescribed Group of Companies format.
  5. Submitting detailed planning reports concerning all legal difficulties and schedules for the subsequent week and/or month.
  6. Rendering professional support as a legal representative and liaising with the Board of Directors, senior management and colleagues regarding various subjects to ensure the ability to proactively address any troubleshooting issues which may arise from time to time.
  7. Liaising with the Board of Directors and senior management in regulating external recovery of outstanding payments from debtors, damages and legal costs; you are specifically required to take ownership and accountability for the proper execution of any ad-hoc projects.
  8. Ensuring strict compliance with the Group of Companies protocol on policies, procedures and legal regulations of business directed in South Africa and abroad.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • LLB, Admitted Attorney.
  • Minimum 3 years PQE.
  • Experience in Litigation, Corporate & Commercial.
  • Highly detail-oriented and able to work independently.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • High level of determination.
  • Effective communication skills, able to communicate internally and externally at all levels (lawyers, shareholders, auditors).
