Job Description
This role is mainly responsible for validating and reconciling data from multiple sources and applying relevant tax knowledge to ensure extensive accuracy thereof. The data relates to client offshore investment activities and the various tax implications thereof. A basic understanding of investments and tax is therefore necessary. Additionally, performing data manipulation and descriptive data analysis to ensure reasonability. The ideal candidate must have experience analysing financial information and therefore very comfortable working with numbers.
Key responsibilities will include, amongst others, the following:
- Extensive analysis of relevant client financial information to ensure validity, completeness, accuracy, and correct recording into the client administration system.
- Perform data quality checks, reconcile and validate results, and implement solutions to support business requirements.
- Collate information in predetermined formats or formats developed by the individual.
- Extract and analyse data from various sources and integrate data accordingly to meet business objectives.
- Perform data manipulation and descriptive/exploratory data analysis.
- Simplify and communicate complex financial information.
- Liaise with external and internal stakeholders appropriately to achieve desired outcomes.
- Translate complex data and/or instructions into meaningful outcomes when required.
- Interpret data and provide meaningful recommendations to the business.
- Manage own time, tasks, and output quality independently.
- Work effectively as part of a team, contributing ideas, supporting colleagues, and fostering a cooperative work environment.
- Strong knowledge of South African income tax law is essential, including working on analysis and testing of capital gains tax, dividends tax, S24J tax, section 24I, section 25D, and other relevant areas of South African income tax.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required
- Matric and a degree/diploma in a relevant qualification; a postgraduate qualification in accounting or tax would be ideal.
- Minimum 2-4 years of relevant financial analysis experience in the financial services industry.
- Tax experience is essential, involving analysis and testing of capital gains tax, dividends tax, S24J tax, and other income tax areas.
- Experience with investment products, specifically offshore endowments, is preferred.
- Knowledge of how financial instruments work, including corporate actions and dividends.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and excellent stakeholder engagement at various levels.
