Job Description: Online ESL Teacher (Johannesburg, Part-Time, Permanent)

Join our team as a Johannesburg-based, permanent part-time online ESL teacher, working from the comfort of your home with the support of an experienced team and company resources.

We provide extensive training on EF's sophisticated yet easy-to-use online classroom platform and offer ongoing professional development opportunities. Our academic team creates lesson materials, allowing you to focus on connecting personally with each student in group and private lessons.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Conducting 20- to 45-minute conversation-based online lessons with adult learners.
  2. Providing after-class reports detailing student progress and recommendations.
  3. Attending ongoing training sessions.
  4. Creating custom lesson materials as experience grows.

Minimum infrastructure requirements at home:

  • Uncapped Wi-Fi with at least 20 Mbps upload/download speed.
  • Backup power system (UPS) lasting a minimum of 4 hours, with Wi-Fi router plugged in during load shedding.
  • Surge protector (minimum V – 50Hz).
  • Transport equipment personally, at your own cost, to and from the office.

All equipment must be stored securely.

Working hours are scheduled on an ad hoc basis, with shifts typically from Monday to Sunday, varying from 20 to 45 hours per week, depending on operational needs. Specific shifts are communicated in advance.

Pay rates are hourly, starting at R41.76, with variation up to R79.24 depending on the shift. Benefits include medical aid access after probation, discretionary bonuses, and potential career advancement through KPIs.

Requirements include:

  • South African residency and possession of a South African ID.
  • Residence in Johannesburg or easy access to Bryanston office.
  • C2 level English proficiency with a neutral accent.
  • Bachelor’s degree (mandatory).
  • TEFL qualification (preferred), with EF providing training if needed.
  • Highly computer literate.
  • Professional, energetic, and people-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Previous teaching experience is a plus but not required; other work experience is also considered.
