Job description

Earth Observations Strategy Development and Implementation

1. Develop, review, and implement the Earth Observations (EO) strategy.
2. Engage user communities to gather and develop user requirement specifications for Earth Observation.
3. Communicate the benefits of Earth Observations to relevant stakeholders.
4. Support the review of EO strategy and other related matters.
5. Facilitate the implementation of the strategy through EO stakeholders (e.g., SANSA, SAEON).
6. Prepare user requirements reports and relevant documentation (e.g., reports related to user engagements).
7. Organize workshops and meetings to promote engagement and information sharing.
8. Share benefits through the National EO Secretariat.
9. Produce approved review reports and track milestones achieved in strategic implementation.
10. Respond to user requirements and feedback.

Development and Promotion of EO Applications

1. Support the development and implementation of Earth Observation applications.
2. Facilitate calls for proposals based on user engagement and oversee the selection process for implementation.
3. Promote the development of applications aligned with user requirements provided by stakeholders.
4. Monitor progress through bi-annual reports.
5. Facilitate the transfer of funds as per contracts.
6. Provide technical inputs on the APP, Operations plan, and strategic plans.
7. Analyze and contribute to quarterly, annual, and project reports.

Knowledge and Training

• Understanding of the Space Science and Technology Landscape.
• Good knowledge of South African Earth Observations Dynamics and role players.
• Knowledge of the National System of Innovation.

Desired Skills and Experience
