Job description

This is a full-time remote role for an Accountant at The SME Support HUB.

This is a client-facing role servicing clients in the UNITED KINGDOM.

The Accountant will be responsible for overseeing some client operations management, utilizing analytical skills, managing UK Payroll, and collections.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Assisting with the preparation of monthly, bi-monthly, and quarterly financial and management accounts for UK small businesses.
  2. Managing client expectations and deadlines.
  3. Preparing personal and business tax returns.
  4. Carrying out full bookkeeping functions including journal postings and ledger reconciliations.
  5. Processing client records accurately using Xero / QuickBooks software.
  6. Preparing VAT returns and management accounts.
  7. Handling phone calls to HMRC for verifications or queries.
  8. Preparing and submitting CIS returns (UK).
  9. Assisting with general administrative duties, including meeting and greeting clients, filing, answering calls, and supporting the team to meet deadlines.
  10. Preparing year-end financial statements for individuals and companies (IFRS for SMEs).
  11. Analyzing accounting systems to identify inaccuracies and potential improvements.
  12. Understanding and adhering to all UK financial regulations and legislation.
  13. Performing UK Payroll for SMEs.

Minimum qualifications and experience include:

  1. Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree or higher in accounting or finance.
  2. At least 3 years of relevant experience in finance operations including collections, bookkeeping, UK payroll, and UK tax.
  3. Experience in an accounting firm (preferred).
  4. CIMA or ACCA qualification (preferred).
  5. Ability to work independently and remotely.
  6. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  7. Knowledge of UK financial regulations.
  8. Strong attention to detail.
  9. Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.
  10. Previous client-facing experience is essential.
  11. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and accounting software such as Xero / QuickBooks.

Note: Must have UK client-facing experience and be able to work remotely from anywhere in South Africa.
