Job description

Bridge House School, an independent, co-ed day and boarding school situated close to Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, and Paarl in the Western Cape, is seeking a Junior Accountant to join their team.

With its emphasis on future thinking and relevance, Bridge House School is a distinctive, vibrant school that embraces innovation and change.

The ideal candidate is a detailed and deadline-oriented individual, with strong numerical skills.

Duties will include (but not limited to):

  1. Daily reconciliation of bank statements.
  2. Assist with creditors and debtors, and have experience with reconciliations.
  3. Maintain accurate financial records up to Trial Balance and prepare all month-end reconciliations for reporting.
  4. Complete Monthly Management Accounts by the 10th of each month.
  5. Assist with payroll processing and maintain HR records.
  6. Maintain the fixed asset register, calculate monthly depreciation, and post relevant journals.
  7. Monitor budget performance.
  8. Assist with cash flow forecasts, budgets, and submission of SARS returns.
  9. Support external audits by providing documentation and explanations of financial transactions.
  10. Assist with the implementation of new accounting systems.
  11. Stay updated on industry best practices, financial regulations, and software tools.
  12. Perform all other tasks related to this position.

Essential qualifications, skills, and experience: BCom Accounting degree with completed SAIPA articles; 1-2 years' experience in a similar position; excellent knowledge of IFRS for SMEs; sound work ethic, professional and pleasant demeanour when dealing with staff and stakeholders; strong proficiency in Excel, Pastel Accounting, Payroll, Xero Accounting, and Simple Pay.

Commencement date: July.
