Job summary

Ideal candidates will have a valid Trade Test Certificate and experience in an FMCG environment, with a focus on safety and cost control.

  • Experience in the Food Industry is advantageous.

Job description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of a Fitter to be based at the McCain Springs site, Gauteng.

The successful candidate will report to the Maintenance Superintendent.

Note that there will be formal practical assessments for shortlisted candidates.

Purpose of the Job:

To maintain plant equipment in good operational condition to ensure 98% plant availability, meet line rates, ensure equipment functions at required standards for product quality, and minimize waste.

Key Performance Areas:
  1. Maintain plant equipment and install process machinery.
  2. Perform daily preventative maintenance, inspect equipment for faults, and report or repair issues.
  3. Complete maintenance schedules and inspections as per standards.
  4. Conduct root cause analysis on breakdowns, repair faults, and implement preventative measures.
  5. Remove and install equipment during planned maintenance.
  6. Overhaul equipment by disassembling, examining, replacing, and repairing faulty parts, then reassemble.
  7. Implement new installations or modifications.
  8. Maintain and service workshop equipment to ensure maximum availability.
  9. Assist with engineering projects as assigned.
  10. Work on lathe (machining shafts, reading engineering drawings), milling machine, and workshop machinery.
Safety:

Work according to McCain Safety and Food Safety requirements, ensuring equipment is in safe operational condition, adhering to AIB, HACCP, and safety principles. Practice 5S principles and comply with OHS Act and other applicable regulations.

Cost Control:

Record spares and breakdown details via SAP, review critical spares requirements, and report to the Mechanical Superintendent. Implement cost reduction and efficiency measures on resources like water, electricity, steam, and air. Participate in the MDI process, identify opportunities for cost savings, propose improvements, and implement approved actions.

Requirements:
  • School: Grade 12 or N3 Certificates.
  • Valid Trade Test Certificate (Fitter and Turner).
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Fitter in an FMCG environment.
  • Knowledge in overhauling pumps, packaging equipment, conveying equipment, pneumatics, shakers, augers, and hydraulics.
  • General fitting experience.
  • Experience in the Food Industry is advantageous.
