Our client based in Richards Bay is seeking a Project Planner to join their team. This role is crucial in planning and scheduling multiple projects and resources, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in alignment with their strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in project planning within the manufacturing or engineering industries, preferably related to mining or smelting operations. Please note that this is a 6-month contract.
Accountabilities:
- Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring integration across multiple projects and alignment with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to establish project requirements, milestones, and deliverables.
- Monitor project progress and performance, identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Facilitate resource planning and allocation, ensuring that personnel, materials, and equipment are utilized efficiently.
- Prepare and present project status reports, updates, and forecasts to senior management and key stakeholders.
- Conduct regular reviews of project timelines and budgets, making adjustments as necessary to optimize project execution.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including schedules, reports, and financial records.
- Implement project management best practices and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Foster a collaborative team environment by effectively communicating and coordinating with cross-functional teams.
Problem Solving:
- Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget.
- Define and coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects.
- Measure and report on project performance using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Perform internal risk management to minimize project risks.
- Coordinate ad-hoc internal projects when required.
Internal / External Impacts:
Projects need to remain financially and technically viable and need to be completed successfully. Projects impact company reputation, revenue, margins, and operating costs, and thus form a key element of the business. Impacts to/from other departments need to be considered during the planning of a project, such as warehouse operations, workshop facilities and tools, supply chain, and finance. Resources from other departments might be used to plan, execute, and hand over projects. Timeous planning is required with other teams in this regard.
Education, Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- PMP certification or equivalent is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Project Planner in manufacturing or engineering, with a focus on mining or smelting projects.
- Proven track record of managing multiple projects and resources simultaneously.
- Exceptional organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficient in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera, or equivalent) and other planning tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to present information and influence stakeholders at all levels.
