To perform skilled maintenance, installation, repair, and inspection work on complex refrigeration equipment, inspection and maintenance of fire defence systems, inspection and general facility maintenance, racking systems, standby power generators, and electrical switchgear.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation, Maintenance, and Repair
- Install refrigeration equipment and systems.
- Inspect systems and their components to ensure safety, identify necessary repairs, and provide an ongoing programme of preventive maintenance.
- Diagnose problems and failures in refrigeration systems to determine repair and replacement needs.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance to ensure the ongoing functioning of refrigeration systems.
- Test components using electrical and mechanical test equipment.
- Charge and leak test refrigerant systems.
- Perform pre-start-up checks on equipment and make necessary adjustments.
- Lay out and install reference points for determining equipment location.
Maintain records of refrigerants, paperwork, logs, time and materials, specifications, etc., for regulatory compliance and information sharing.
- Repair various items, systems, and components to ensure equipment availability and safety.
- Perform facility maintenance of the warehouse and administration buildings.
- Inspect and repair fire defence systems.
- Inspect and maintain standby power generating equipment.
- Inspect and maintain electrical switchgear.
- Manage contractors for repairs to plant equipment and structures.
- Manage contractors for capex project installations.
- Coordinate with Operations management, administration, and maintenance team members to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
- Inform the Regional Engineer about procedures and work order status for decision-making, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Assist other maintenance personnel as needed.
- Maintain tools and equipment to ensure safe operation.
- Respond to emergency situations during or after hours to address safety concerns.
- Transport materials to ensure availability at the job site.
Additional responsibilities include dismantling malfunctioning systems, analyzing and testing components, and implementing safety, health, environment, risk, and quality (SHEQ) procedures.

- Ensure proper documentation within the Total Integrated Management System (TIMS).
- Control stock by completing spares requisitions for procurement and replenishment.
- Guide, train, and coordinate technical assistants and handymen.

Qualifications and Experience
- Valid Code EB driver’s license.
- Matric with an approved apprenticeship in industrial refrigeration.
- Authorized refrigeration practitioner Cat B8: Ammonia.
- At least 3 years' experience in repairing and maintaining industrial/truck refrigeration equipment.
