Job description

Transport Manager required in the Steel industry

POSITION INFO: Responsibilities

  • Responsible for installation, repair, maintenance, and service of facility machinery equipment - such as overhead cranes, plasma machines, interior and exterior saws (workshop), and generators.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance planning and implementation on facility machinery, including but not limited to cranes, forklifts, generators, interior and exterior saws (workshop), welding machines, croppers, compressors, spray pumps, hoses, small trailers, oil and tire stores, ladders, chains, trucks, and trailers.
  • Monitor overall diesel usage, planning, reporting, and refill management.
  • General employee management, including project support employee coordination and time management (e.g., crane operators, cranes on site arrivals and removal, containers).
  • Overall fleet management.
  • Overall budget management combined with a strategic market review of comparative part pricing structures.
  • General maintenance management of the company structures and gardens.
  • General maintenance management at MD and/or directors' properties.
  • Manage troubleshooting and repair schedules of overall facility machinery.
  • Write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Manage daily maintenance and repair logs of fleet and machinery aligned with job card planning and allocation.
  • Communication with subordinates.
  • Manage cleaning and maintenance of work areas and company vehicles.
  • Manage equipment when not in use, including decommissioning planning.
  • Manage fleet planning and route scheduling, including internal awareness/communication pertaining to routes, trips, and deliveries.
  • Manage overall fleet service schedules and planning to minimize downtime and effect on projects, including proper communication with relevant stakeholders.
  • Responsible for operating and monitoring the company vehicles tracking systems.
  • Manage departmental tools and equipment in the department.
  • Manage standby and 24-hour assistance when required regarding maintenance, breakdown assistance, and upkeep of company fleet (e.g., trucks, trailers).
  • Manage inter-provincial breakdown partners where required.
  • Maintain valid licenses, lifting certificates, and permits for the company fleet (e.g., trucks, trailers).
  • Monitor and manage driver compliance with road traffic legislation and relevant vehicle usage, such as licenses, PDP, operator licenses, and fines.

Requirements

  • Completed Matric / Grade 12.
  • 5 years proven track record in a senior management position within a similar environment.
  • Postgraduate fleet management qualification (NQF level 8) or senior management program in fleet management.
  • 5 years diesel mechanic experience within a crane lifting and transportation environment combined.
  • 5 years proven track record in cylinder, hydraulics, pneumatic, and crane repair management.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Advanced organizational, interpersonal, and planning skills.
  • Advanced reading, writing, and arithmetic skills are required.
  • Advanced mathematical ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages and interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics.
